This is a truly spectacular large room size carpet from the Arak/Sultanabad area of western Persia. The sandy straw field displays three full columns of unattached alternating octilobe and cartouche medallions with internal lace patterns and a supporting fill of bent leaves and rosettes. The wide, powerful cream border features recurved and barbed leaves pairwise embracing large in-palmettes and smaller out palmettes. Light blue, pale green and chocolate are among the detail tones. Cotton foundation, medium-coarse weave. An outstanding work of folk art.
