An antique Persian Sultanabad carpet. Ivory field Sultanabad rugs are always in demand, especially those which, as here, have large scale allover floral patterns. Skeletal open tall lozenges enclose rosettes and palmettes, and are, in turn, part of a larger broken vinery, coiled arabesque, and leaf layout. The rust main border emphasizes tall flowers. Such desirable Sultanabads were woven only in the 1890-1920 period and have been taken up by designers as the ultimate accompaniments to opulent interiors.
