An antique Turkish Oushak rug from the early 20th century. Tulips, laurel wreaths, saz leaves and palmettes are among the numerous clever field motives of this c.1910 western Turkish Oushak carpet. ‘Fish’ leaves swirl around rosettes in the border. The designs of the best Oushaks of the period, as here, were supplied by artists working for European export firms. The pattern is more complex and disciplined than on most contemporaneous Oushaks.
