A vintage East Turkestan Khotan carpet. Khotans are rarely in Western room sizes. In this uncommon example with a mostly slate ground, a fret cruciform center and matching triangular field corners set off four more or less circular medallions, two with rainbow multicolor peripheries. Pomegranate sprays are scattered about the field. A Chinese-style inner border with oblique swastika fret sections shows its origins.
