A vintage East Turkestan Kirghiz Gallery carpet. The central Asian Kirghiz tribes weave long rugs with geometric designs and Chinese patterns: as here, the “longevity” lattice. The carpets feature narrow palettes of red and navy or dark brown. Here we have the motif in a vibrant red over a khaki background. The border is a boldly stepped zig-zag on one side and a more diagonal striped design on the other.
