A vintage Persian Gabbeh rug. This south Persian Qashqai gabbeh scatter is a tritonal exercise in undyed grey, dark brown and beige sheep’s wool. Two plain borders frame the equally plain field, given texture only because of the irregular knotting and natural abrash. It doesn’t get simpler or more abstract than this, or more authentically nomadic. Gabbehs were originally made for domestic tribal use and only relatively recently have they become items of commerce.
