A vintage Persian Gabbeh rug. With an apocryphal “date” of 2536, this rustic Persian carpet features a stepped, irregular pendant lozenge medallion with an infill of tiny ivory flowers, set against a red field of more five dot flowers in yellow, black, green and salmon. The number may be a date in the old Persian Achaemenid calendar, referring to the founding by Cyrus of the Persian Empire as year one. The goldenrod main border sports a zig-zag pattern.
