Vintage Persian Gabbeh Rug

This is really a bridge between the wholly abstract, reduced color Qashqai Gabbehs made for personal, household use and the more commercial pieces. The chocolate brown border with its palmettes and embracing primitive leaves is a takeoff on a traditional rug design, while the intensely abrashed red to goldenrod field with three broken off set columns of rosette and petit lozenge chain-filled large lozenges is more in the true Gabbeh vein. Cheerfully naive. Wool foundation, medium nomadic weave.
