A vintage Persian Hamadan rug. Clearly an informal village creation, the abrashed charcoal field displays an assemblage of wonky motives approximating palmettes and other vegetal devices, set within freely drawn corners in pistachio, buff, teal, and sand. The border shows sort-of flowers on light blue at one end but dissolves into rough brushwork along the sides. This is a totally informal rug, quickly dashed off at the wearer's whim.
