A vintage Persian Mashad rug. This finely woven micro-runner has a black field displaying an outline cartouche pattern adorned with palmettes and tiny flowers. The outer ivory border has two inscriptions in hard-to-decipher calligraphy which may identify the weaver or the patron of this exceptional small NE Persian city weaving. It seems to be dated 1351 or about 1930-1.
