Vintage Persian Turkoman Pictorial Rug

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a wool foundation. The abrashed bone-beige natural ground presents a truncated, half-length stylized portrait of a young ruler in ceremonial military dress, with a crown positioned above his head. Dot and quincunx motifs appear at the sides, with identifying inscriptions above. A red main border is patterned with stars, while an outer border carries ram’s-horn zigzags. Probably the work of the Tekke.
