A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The near-black field displays a bold Neo-Kazak design in the Chelaberd manner, with an ecru central medallion featuring a clawed sub-medallion. At each end of the field is a split partial octagon structure enclosing a ragged palmette. The buff border alternates rayed diamonds with bulbous elements of arabesque strapwork. The lineage from 18th-century Caucasian rugs is clear.
