Antique Persian Tabriz Flag Pictorial Rug (Pair: 1 of 2)

No. 11839
Persia, Early 20th Century
1 ft. 7 in. x 1 ft. 9 in.
(0.48 x 0.53 m)

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. A visual pair to rug # 11840. The abrashed light blue sky is filled by a 48-star American flag whose staff is clutched by a soaring, fierce multicolored eagle in this pictorial rug. This Persian Kashan rug must have been woven before 1979 when the Shah, an ally of the United States, was overthrown. The 48-star American flag points to a time between 1912 and 1959 when this flag was in commission. Because it was woven in the preeminent workshop of Dabir in Kashan, one of the most reputable Persian workshops of the early 20th century, we know this antique rug is most likely from circa 1920.
