Antique Caucasian Soumak Large Carpet

Wool pattern wefts in soumak technique on a wool foundation. The red field displays three offset columns of reticulated dark blue lozenge medallions, all with ecru edges. Secondary medium-blue octagons and “rocket ship” devices appear at the field edges. Chains of rosettes and knots run along each side adjacent to the borders. The black main border features a zigzag pattern with filler cloud bands, and a red-and-black outer frame shows a wave or running-dog motif.
