Antique Indian Larestan Carpet

An antique Indian Larestan carpet. The sixteenth century comes fully alive with this antique northern Indian copy of the famous Chelsea Carpet. The navy eight-point medallion is closely filled with a Safavid design of palmettes and arabesques, and there are four diagonal matching palmettes and en suite corners. Sinuous dragons, vases and a multilayer arabesque fill the ruby red field. The striking main border reciprocates complex navy and red arabesque arches. Close in size to the original. a very unique Indian carpet.
