An antique Persian Afshar carpet. The Afshar tribal weavers of SE Persia occasionally produce large carpets and this rare example carries over the traditional stepped lozenge pattern in a repeated, but not enlarged scale. The diamond-shaped panels are grounded in old ivory, abrashed green, abrashed light red, light grey-green, charcoal and dark brown, all with a central, dominant rosette. The main border features irregular red cartouches with lotus palmettes.
