An antique Persian Afshar carpet. Rarely are tribal rugs this large, but the Afshars of SE Persia occasionally weave larger formats. The traditional stripe or “cane” design is graphic in ivory and brown, with no medallion or another ornament to break up the geometric rigor. There are numerous borders, of which the red main stripe of colorful rosettes linked by two straight vines is particularly noteworthy. This tribal piece would make a great dining room rug!
