Antique Persian Fereghan Mahal Oversize Carpet

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. This relatively finely woven village carpet displays a broad ogival lattice uniformly enclosing one-directional palmettes on an ecru-to-ivory ground, with accents in rust red, dark brown, muted blue, pale blue, salmon, and olive green. The goldenrod-to-warm-ochre, strip-style main border features reversing turtle palmettes separated by rosettes. Inner and outer straw-colored minor borders display trapezoidal meanders, while the secondary borders feature beveled link chains centered by lozenges.
