An antique Persian Fereghan rug. This is an antique rug with a dense allover Herati pattern of leaves, lozenges, and rosettes very closely covering the pale straw ground, all within an ivory rosette and stiff linking vine border. The weave is fine and the texture is leathery. Fereghans were woven before 1880, and before the transition to Fereghan-Sarouks (1880 to 1910) and the more modern Sarouk (1910 onwards).
