An antique Persian Gabbeh rug. Somewhat worn, the undyed ivory field lets the blue foundation through while displaying a central cerulean lozenge and attendant red triangles. Human figures and animals appear in the field. The rug is dated 1372 or 1952, but it appears to be older. This shabby chic nomadic Qashqai scatter Gabbeh, from south Persia, is typical of rugs woven for domestic use. Gabbehs are rarely dated, spuriously or otherwise.
