Antique Persian Heriz Accent Rug

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The splayed animal-pelt pattern, here rendered in navy on a red ground, is rarely found on scatters, being more typical of room-size carpets. A straw four-palmette medallion centers the composition, anchoring abstract leaves, octogrammes, stems, and rosettes. The pelt outline and arms are light blue, with ochre and green corner elements. A navy strip-style main border displays reversing turtle motifs. An exceptional piece, effectively compressing a full carpet design into a dozar (scatter) format.
