Antique Persian Kashan Pictorial Rug

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The creamy ivory to warm-ecru field displays a bust-length portrait of a Qajar prince or ruler, shown with a beard, period hat, and draped gold jewelry, rendered in coral-red, salmon, pale blue, gold-yellow, olive-green, dark brown, and black. There is no identifying inscription. The warm-ivory main border features a tendril with reversing fan palmettes in coral-red, burgundy, medium blue, and dark brown, while a narrow medium blue to turquoise-blue band surrounds the composition.
