Antique Persian Mahal Carpet

An antique Persian Mahal carpet. This Herati pattern is so mellow that it barely registers on the soft rose ground as a traditional Persian allover repeat. The straw yellow border displays a Mahal version of the turtle palmette and rosette pattern. There is a subtle diagonal effect in the Herati pattern, but you have to look to see it, but it will only enhance the decorative character of this comfortable carpet. Mahals are the comfiest of room-sized antique Persian carpets.
