Antique Persian Mahal Room Size Carpet

A wool pile with asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. The dark charcoal-slate field features a neat, medium-scale allover Herati pattern of palmettes, rosettes, and sickle leaves. The open hexagons have transformed into a more cartouche-like shape, though they remain rather inconspicuous. The tonally harmonious strip-style main border displays turtles enclosing petal palmettes, with boteh lancet leaves swirling pairwise around rosettes. This is a well-balanced and rich carpet, with deep red sections in the border and green and ecru accents throughout.
