An antique Persian Malayer rug. The taupe field displays offset rows of botehs facing alternately left and right interspersed with even tinier botehs. The ivory main border of rosettes and octofoil cartouches has been borrowed from Farahan Sarouk rugs. Here the light ground and lack of distracting minors make it especially striking.
