While the royal blue main field displays colorful geometric blossoms and leaves, the main interest of this antique rug is the dark blue upper panel with the lion and sun, royal crown, Persian flag, and a date of 1321 that converts to 1904 in the Gregorian calendar. Looks to be South Persian, Fars Province, from a Qashqai or Khamseh tribal weaver.
