An antique Persian Khamseh carpet near Shiraz. From the Baharlu or Ainalu tribes of the SW Persian Khamseh Federation, this superb ivory ground tribal weaving takes its unidirectional boteh (paisley) pattern from Senneh rugs of the same, 1870-1880s, period, and ultimately from Kerman shawl textiles. The pattern is carefully delineated and the seven-plus one-half rows of colorful botehs have a finely drawn thin vinery between the principal motives.
