An antique Persian Tabriz carpet. This taupe and beige NW Persian urban Tabriz carpet has a field pattern adapted from 17th century Kerman “Vase carpets”: a multi-level lattice supports various palmettes, many diagonally oriented, and closely covers the background. Small flower sprays fill in around the larger motives. The ivory border also interprets earlier archetypes with square floret arrays separating upright and diagonal palmettes.
