Antique Persian Tabriz Hagi Jalili Rug

An antique Persian Tabriz Hagi Jalili rug. From the best period of antique Tabriz weaving, the “Hajji Jalili” era in the later 19^th century, this ruglet displays a power far beyond its size.  An ogival, thyrsus pendant medallion floats on a pinched ivory subfield which, in turn, is set on a ground en suite to that of the medallion. A wiry, multi-barbed scrolling border vigorously directs the eye around the composition. A masterpiece in a small format. A giant carpet to fit in your pocket.
