An antique Persian Tabriz Pictorial rug. On a sand ground, a hunt is in progress with mounted figures in Qajar garb pursuing deer and lions. A royal figure is seated near a pond with his flunkies close at hand. The border of this finely woven urban pictorial alternates cypresses, kneeling figures and sheep. The Qajar ruling dynasty must have still reigned when this rug was woven as hunting rugs are generally styled after earlier Persian miniature paintings.
