A vintage Indian Cotton Agra carpet. Most cotton Agras from northern India are softly toned, but this unusual example has a rich palette of black, brown, sand, and sky blue, with a strong centralized design featuring palmettes, large serrated lancet leaves and radiating bud circles. Also, Cotton Agras are almost always cotton, hence the name, but in our example here, it is made up of wool. The central black border shows octagons, fringed simple palmettes, and small flowers. A well-woven, unusual city carpet needing bold, overscaled furnishings.
