A vintage Persian Malayer rug. Malayer weavers create a small scatter inexhaustible variety of Herati pattern variants and this one shows three pole medallion columns of rayed lozenges associated with square-bent ‘fish’ leaves accented in red-brown, ecru and sand on a slate grey field. A widely spread meander encloses two types of pyramidal simple palmettes on a straw main border. The visual effect is one of lozenges and rectangles.
