Vintage Persian Yazd Pictorial Throw Rug

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation. Following Kerman archetypes, though set on a characteristic blue ground, the dervish Nur Ali Shah is shown seated facing left, holding a protective axe, with a kashkul (begging bowl) placed before him. He wears a red-rust scarf and a conical dervish hat. At the left stands a flowering shrub in a pot. An oval clipeus encloses the figure, with roses set into the navy corners. A crisp blue border with rosettes frames the scene, accompanied by an inner implicit band with a reciprocal design, in the manner associated with Kerman.
