Antique Indian Agra Carpet

An antique Indian Agra carpet. The denim blue field of this closely woven north Indian city carpet displays four large central palmettes arranged in an equal arm cross pattern with smaller palmettes increasing in both number and proximity toward the ends of the field. It is as if the pointed longitudinal palmettes are pushing them away from the center, so they are not anchored but really mobile. Very clever.
