An antique Persian Fereghan runner. Rich dark blue field with a perfectly rendered Herati pattern; an apple green border with turtle palmettes. Exactly what a classic Farahan should be. But a Kanare (runner) like this is very uncommon compared to its wider gallery format sisters. Farahans were called “Gentleman's carpets” in the 19th century, conveying something of sensible, correct, restrained taste. Nothing wild, everything in its proper place, but, as here, really good, really well done. Definitely desirable.
