Antique Persian Lavar Kerman Pictorial Rug

A wool pile of asymmetric knots on a cotton foundation, woven sideways with a long warp. The nearly half-length, stylized image of Shah ‘Abbas, with his characteristic mustachioes, is set between two slender columns supporting a rounded arch. Beneath scalloped side arches appear birds among foliage. Ducks in ecru octofoils occupy the corners of the border system. An ecru main border with flower sprays frames the composition. Horizontal format, woven from the right end.
