Vintage Turkish Oushak Carpet

A vintage Turkish Oushak carpet. The light red field of this antique Oushak displays a central vertical pole medallion of connected Harshang palmettes set between columns of lozenges, crosses and bent stiff leaves (Yaprak). This overall pattern goes back to the 18^th century in Oushaks. The main border displays roses and hyacinth sprays in the Turkish rustic style. This carpet shows the style continuity between early pieces and the export market of the 20^th century.
