This large Khamseh, southwest Persian tribal weaving shows five more-or-less identically dressed and postured nomadic ladies, each seated on the ground and holding an apple or cup in an outstretched palm. Floral – dotted skirts or dress. Supporting flowers, birds and Persian flags are scattered around. No iconographic hints. Figures were probably taken from an illustrated source. Characteristic Khamseh ivory order of closely packed stepped crosses. Wool foundation, moderate weave. Khamseh pictorials are very rare, and a figural one of this size even more so. Good condition.
