A vintage Spanish Cuenca Gallery carpet. This rare Spanish carpet has a blue border with a pattern derived ultimately from Islamic Kufic calligraphy by way of the Caucasus. The rust-red field is organized by three vertical bar axes and elaborate repeating interstitial squares. Hard to describe, but easy to appreciate. Although not early, this carpet has the long and narrow format of the 16th century Cuenca carpets.
