Vintage Turkish Anatolian Pictorial Rug (Pair: 2 of 2)

No. 33459
Turkey, Mid-20th Century
1 ft. 6 in. x 3 ft. 5 in.
(0.46 x 1.04 m)

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a wool foundation. A visual pair to rug # 33429. Signed “Yasar.” This short-warp piece displays an open dark charcoal-brown field with two three-legged ivory deer, their coats decorated with dusty-rose and brown zigzag patterns, confronting one another across a semi-architectural device in rust, coral red, ochre, black, and ivory. The rose-brown main border features a trapezoidal meander and small square blossoms in black, ivory, red, yellow, and muted lavender. Rust-brown plain-weave finishes complete the ends. Probably originally woven as a yastik, or cushion cover.
