Vintage Turkish Anatolian Pictorial Rug

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a wool foundation. The dark brown to near-black field displays two large geometric lions in straw and ivory tones, staring outward with amazed expressions. Star motifs decorate their bodies, with another positioned between them, while short, spiky manes frame their heads. Bright pink, brown, black, gray, and rust accents enliven the figures. The dark brown and charcoal border displays reciprocal triangles along the sides and linked X-motifs at the ends. Originally woven as a yastik, or cushion cover.
