An antique Indian Lahore carpet. This well-woven north Indian carpet displays an allover design of offset rows of two types of artificial plants on an old ivory ground, within a wine red border of connected cartouches formed of split arabesques. The main border is lace-like and hard to describe, but it makes a very effective frame. The ivory/wine red color combo appears on Agra carpets, but with the tonal proportions reversed. A uniquely decorative rug.
