An antique Persian Sarouk Fereghan carpet. Sarouk Fereghans were woven in the 1890-1910 period and most larger carpets, as here, were in medallion styles with madder red fields and navy medallions. The extended corners here abrash from blue-green to lime. The navy main border sports a variety of palmettes and stiff connecting vines. The drawing is chunky and angular, not quite a Heriz, but not a Kashan either. This is actually a village rug masquerading as an urban production.
