An antique Persian Mashad carpet. Mashad carpets are famous for their intricate, fully realized medallion designs. This navy ground piece is a perfect exemplar of the genre with a salmon eight-point medallion and pendants overlaying a dense arabesque and palmette pattern. The rose corners are a semi-ensuite. The wide border frame with multiple stripes is also a Mashad feature. This carpet is very well woven and is a fine, highly decorative example of the better 1920's work of that eastern Persian city.
