An antique Persian Tabriz carpet. The slate blue field displays a particularly well-rendered Mustafi pattern of large volute leaves and broken floral wreaths with a millefleurs background. The Mustafi pattern is seen more on Bidjars and Mahal carpets and is relatively rare on Tabriz work. The straw main border also copies Mahals with its progressive palmette flowers on an angular meander. This NW Persian city carpet is much finer than the usual Mahals.
