Antique Persian Bibikabad Throw Rug

No. 22969
Persia, Early 20th Century
2 ft. 3 in. x 3 ft. 3 in.
(0.69 x 0.99 m)

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. Probably the smallest Bibikabad piece ever made, this small scatter rug displays a faded slate-gray to blue-gray field with five open columns of loosely drawn round rosettes, palmettes, and related motifs in beige, cream, muted gold, taupe, dusty rose, and soft brown. The beige-to-cream main border features composite X-and-diamond motifs, flanked by reciprocal Y-pattern minor borders in dark brown. Coarsely woven with a rustic character.
