An antique Persian Mahal carpet. The rich brick red field is densely covered with a design of colorful, multi-petal tilted palmettes and a mad scatter of other foliate/floriated elements. A mustard border displays shaggy palmettes and tiny leaves. This west Persian village carpet could, if one wanted to, be called a ‘Sultanabad’ rather than a mere ‘Mahal’.
