An antique Persian Malayer carpet. The village of Famenin, between Hamadan and Malayer, weaves large carpets in the 17th-century Khorassan cartouche and tree pattern, here accented in orange, graphite, and straw on a dark brown ground. The trees are more angular than in the originals. The narrow ivory turtle border is a local addition to this classical concept. Almost all Famenins are in large sizes. Classified under ‘Malayer’ here. The design must have been taken from rug book illustrations.
